An Invitation to the Table

The incubator gives selected companies the time, space and institutional support to build new work from the ground up inside one of the country's premier performing arts complexes. For Soul Penny Circus, it is an invitation to build something Denver has never seen before, inside the institution that exists to make exactly that possible.

In 2027, we are inviting Denver into a room arranged for the dead.

A Victorian séance conducted with period authenticity, candlelight, ritual objects and stagecraft that predates electricity. A Medium who has spent twenty years making contact. A Historian carrying documents that connect the séance table to a chapter of Colorado history from 1899 that most of us were never taught.

What Happened Here

Something happened in Colorado Springs at the turn of the last century. Something was measured, recorded and quietly buried. The evidence has been waiting in archives for the right room and the right question.

The Practice

The Victorian séance was once a genuine spiritual practice. People gathered around tables and reached toward those they had lost. Then the modern world arrived, and the séance gradually became a relic.

Séance: Lightning by Candlelight asks what it would take to bring that experience back—not as a ghost story, but as a shared act of attention, ritual and wonder.

The evening begins with history. It moves through ritual. It ends somewhere neither we nor you will entirely expect.
